I was always in that zone of "If you are regulation today, you need a haircut for tomorrow!"

I remember back in the day when it was only $1.00 for a regulation haircut on base.

Keglar I think our time at Pendleton was similar. That said I recall Marines getting sores on their neck back then that was linked to bad hygene from barbers. I cannot remember if those barbers were in Oceanside or on base. Do you remember that happening?

Yeh I don't recall it at Camp Margarita either. It must have been in Oceanside. There were plenty of things in that town that were unsanitary.

A $1.00, you got ripped off, they only charged us like .35 Cents. But then again I only got paid $98.00 a month as a private so that seemed fare.

I think I made about $300 a month when I was a 17 year old private in the 1976-1977 time frame.
The sad thing is I made more than that when I was a 12 year old kid working for the newspaper back home.

In 65/66 time frame I made about $64 per Month Net. I made PFC and the deduction for my Civilian life insurance w/war clause kicked in and my net went down to $60/month net.
Back then there was a step in the pay scale for PVT and then PVT with more than 4 months service, turns out Inactive Reserve time in the delayed entry program counted as service time on pay day so I was at the over 4 month mark after about 2 or 3 weeks into boot camp.

Mystical whacked my hair down to semi-regulation so I wouldn't look like a bum at a friend's retirement -

The guys in this pic (L to R) are Colonel, General, General, Colonel - then lowly Capt (me). We all had been enlisted. I was enlisted Army years before with a 5 year break in service, so was nearly a decade older. So I retired as a Captain, while they went on to become Commanders -
