Default Marine General Died - -

Now here's a HERO!!

Lt. Gen. Frank E. Petersen Jr., the first ever black Marine Corps pilot, who fought endemic racism... To rise to the rank of three-star general, has died at age 83.

He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for his performances on 64 combat missions in Korea. He also has a tour of duty in Vietnam commanding a tactical air squadron, in more than 250 missions followed in 1968, and he received the Purple Heart for being wounded when he had to eject because, his plane was struck by anti-aircraft fire.

When I was stationed on Okinawa in 1983/1984, Gen Petersen was the Commanding General of the 1st Marine Air Wing and their headquarters was at Fort Buckner on Okinawa. My assignment was in the ISMO(Information Systems Management Office) as part of the Air Wing Headquarters staff in G1 section. A good General to work for.
